LEISURE IN LIFE

LEISURE IN LIFE

Dear all,

We are enjoying a time of leisure in life due to modern techniques and technologies. Machines are all over to provide relaxation in our daily routines. From kitchen to cleaning, from study to writing, from washing to shaving everything is in easy mode and hassle-free. The office clerk is no more in calculating and arranging old ledgers and books, housewives are not grinding and washing with hands, and youngsters can enjoy all games in their houses.

We are saving our time for more constructive jobs. Scientists are researching in further fields even though nanotechnology seems like an older version of research. I am a little messy while writing on a paper; sometimes there are too many cuts and over-writings in my single paragraph. That is the reason I never sent a single paper to any journal. At this time, I am writing at my P.C without any hassle of pen, ink, or remover for mistakes. All I need to do is move my fingers to patronize my text. I do not need any dictionary or thesaurus to consult for any new words or spell check; all are with me on my P.C/laptop. So it is, no doubt, a time-saving device to settle such untidiness.

Kitchens were once a workplace that captured a person and would not leave them to go anywhere. One had to grind, mix and knead with hand. The kitchen was not joy at that time rather it was like a torture cell. But time changed and machines made cooking easy and convenient. Now, all that was once associated with cooking only, are free. They are not stuck in household activities but playing their role to develop the economy and provide new ideas in all ways of life.

Technology is meant to provide facilities in our life but we are slightly ignoring some precious practices. In my view, the following are some of our lapses.
  • After having a well-equipped P.C our next generation is away from handwriting skills. Most kids are not interested to write much except for school routines.
  • Video games have captured everyone. Bedtime stories are rare in our lives; once it was a beautiful and loving practice where children insisted on their parents for moral or fantasy-oriented stories before going to bed. Parents added bits of advice and moral values to educate their kids.
  • Social media stopped us from social gatherings; we are too much in it. We share each and every moment from day to night so there is nothing left for when we get to meet individually. Our emotions are displayed through various emojis.  We can observe people sharing the same table for lunch/dinner, and are busy texting their other friends silently. What kind of gathering it is where we are not sharing anything verbally and sending our pictures and views through mobile to all those who are sitting beside us.
  • People have long left grinding, kneading, or mixing manually. In the past times, it was a good exercise for muscles. Machines are really necessary but I suggest that for sake of knowing the origin we should try manual work in our routine. Good if once a month.
  • 24 hours of transmission is a barrier to outdoor activities, people generally love to spend their free time in front of T.V and do not like to go out. The family is much more important so as the fun time. We can skip one program and watch a repeat telecast.
  • Video games and T.V is making people addicted to living in the house. But outdoor activities are really necessary for good health and the growth of young ones.

I am not against modern technology but I am in favor of time distribution of all activities. We should make a proper schedule for our daily routines. We should not give the whole of our spare time to one delight only. I cannot force anyone to act as I recommend, as all have their own priorities and living habits. I just want to suggest that we should not abandon all previous customs at once, keep them along with all new techniques. This is like a beautiful fusion.

Best regards.
